What Is Direct Resource (Zheng Yin) in BaZi?
Also called: Zheng Yin
Plain Explanation
Direct Resource is the Ten God relationship in which another Stem’s element generates and supports the Day Master’s element and the two have opposite yin-yang polarities.
The Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar. The Ten Gods use it as their reference point.
Example
Jia (甲) is Yang Wood, and Gui (癸) is Yin Water. Water generates Wood, so Gui supports Jia; the two Stems have opposite yin-yang polarities.
With Jia (甲) as the Day Master, Gui (癸) is called Direct Resource.
What It Is Used For
Direct Resource identifies one type of generating and supporting relationship from other Heavenly Stems to the Day Master. It helps you examine the support the Day Master receives and how that support works with the other Ten Gods.
Favorable and Unfavorable Associations
Favorable means supporting the chart’s needs; unfavorable means hindering them. These are traditional associations to interpret in the context of the whole chart.
- When favorable
- Common associations include learning, caring, and receiving support, with an emphasis on building knowledge and a sense of security.
- When unfavorable
- Common associations include dependence on protection and slow action, with a tendency to remain in the preparation stage.
Common Misunderstandings
How Does Direct Resource Differ from Indirect Resource?
Both generate and support the Day Master. Opposite yin-yang polarities give Direct Resource; the same polarity gives Indirect Resource. For a Jia (甲) Wood Day Master, Gui (癸) is Direct Resource and Ren (壬) is Indirect Resource.
