What Is Seven Killings (Qi Sha) in BaZi?

Also called: Qi Sha

Plain Explanation

Seven Killings is the Ten God relationship in which another Stem’s element controls the Day Master’s element and the two have the same yin-yang polarity.

The Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar. The Ten Gods use it as their reference point.

Example

Jia (甲) is Yang Wood, and Geng (庚) is Yang Metal. Metal controls Wood, and the two Stems have the same yin-yang polarity.

With Jia (甲) as the Day Master, Geng (庚) is called Seven Killings.

What It Is Used For

Seven Killings helps you examine the influences that restrain the Day Master. Consider whether the Day Master can bear that restraint, and whether other Stems and Branches strengthen or ease its effect.

Favorable and Unfavorable Associations

Favorable means supporting the chart’s needs; unfavorable means hindering them. These are traditional associations to interpret in the context of the whole chart.

When favorable
Common associations include resolve, effective action, and readiness to face challenges, with an ability to move things forward under pressure.
When unfavorable
Common associations include domination, impatience, and forceful rivalry, with pressure turning into conflict.

Common Misunderstandings

How Does Seven Killings Differ from the Direct Officer?

In both relationships, the other Stem controls the Day Master. The same yin-yang polarity gives Seven Killings; opposite polarities give Direct Officer. For a Jia (甲) Wood Day Master, Geng (庚) is Seven Killings and Xin (辛) is Direct Officer.

Seven Killings Does Not Mean Disaster

Here, “killings” is part of a Ten God name. It does not predict disaster or judge a person’s character. Its effect must be considered alongside the chart’s strength and relationships.
